ii6-examples

The first inversion ii chord is commonly used as an alternative to IV. This substitution is especially prevalent in minor keys, as you will see in Grade IV harmony.

In ii6, double the third of the chord.
In C+:
ii6 = DFFA with F in the bass.

As with IV-V, we have to watch for parallel fifths and octaves. Note in the examples the contrary and oblique motion between the two F's in ii6.
